If you watch cable news nowadays, it seems almost everyone is talking about White House staff secretary Rob Porter. Even President Trump, who has had to recuse himself from matters related to the investigation into his eldest son Donald Jr.’s hush money payments to women who claimed to have had sexual relationships with him, chimed in on Porter’s dismissal and some of the unfounded claims made against him.

This story has the rare variety of the talking heads, spotlighting arguably the most pressing issue plaguing a city and a nation right now. Yet no one has tried to sum up the real-life drama of Rob Porter in a tidy sound bite. In fact, there are many journalists, which is why we are presenting the “Award for Being an Attitude to the Story” at this year’s American Influencer Awards. In the running are an array of reporters, including in-depth series such as “Why Chicago’s Gun Violence Is Different” and must-read stories on those who carry water for the president.
