LOS ANGELES (CNN) — She is a veteran of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
And now Cheryl Burke is rallying for Cody Rigsby, a contestant on the dance competition’s 14th season, and fans after the 21-year-old was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) this week.
In an emotional post, the dancer said that while the news about Rigsby left her “completely heartbroken,” she is excited for his possible recovery.
“I had the chance to sit down with Cody and speak at length about his diagnosis,” Burke wrote on Instagram. “My heart breaks for him but I couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds for him.”
She also asked fans for “continued prayers” for Rigsby, who grew up in Oklahoma but recently relocated to Los Angeles.
“I’ve seen through my two years of experience what this battle really means to the individuals and families involved,” Burke wrote. “I am praying for an amazing recovery from this.”
The season 14 premiere of “DWTS” airs July 23, but Rigsby won’t be participating in any dances this year.
“Cody has continued to work on his strength and energy to battle this disease and has accepted that he will not be competing on ‘DWTS 14′ this season,” he wrote on Instagram. “He thanks you all for your support and will be back in the game soon.”
