Stevenson University Fashion Student Courtney Roberts Wins 2012 Emerging Designer Award

Stevenson University Fashion Design student Courtney Roberts won the award for the Emerging Ready-to-Wear Designer at the 2012 Fashion Awards Maryland competition held June 9, 2012 at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center located on the campus of the University of Maryland-College Park.
“The Fashion Award program was created to celebrate and recognize the talents of individuals in the fashion community who have made significant contributions to the fashion industry in the state of Maryland,” said Sally DiMarco, Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of Fashion Design Education. ”Courtney was the only student who competed and was selected as the winner in the ready-to-wear category. The other four competitors in this category are professionals actively working in the industry. We are so proud of her accomplishment.”

The Fashion Design program at Stevenson University synthesizes the individual esthetic of the designer with an understanding of the market, historical context of fashion and costume, consumer psychology, materials and techniques of apparel construction, and the relationship to the human form. As a major within SU’s School of Design, the Fashion Design degree draws from the Visual Communication Design, Film and Video, and Business Communication programs within the School as well as Business Administration program in the University’s School of Business and Leadership.
